World Food Day in Schools

World Food Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness and improve understanding within Irish schools of the issues and challenges of hunger, poverty and food supply and distribution in the world.

Each year schools across Ireland mark the occasion, while resources are developed and distributed to support a deeper understanding of the issues that WFD seeks to address.

Global Hunger Index

Each year on World Food Day Concern Worldwide in association with the International Food Policy Research Institute and Welthungerhilfe release a report on the state of hidden hunger across the globe.

This year’s Global Hunger Index report shows that, since 1990, progress has been made in reducing hunger. However, global hunger levels remain unacceptably high; sixteen countries have levels of hunger that are described as “alarming” or “extremely alarming.”
